Anaesthetic monitoring

We have full anaesthetic monitoring facilities, giving us an instant readout of heart rate, blood gas levels (oxygen and carbon dioxide), and a constant ecg display. The full monitoring may not be appropriate for every anaesthetic, but when needed this equipment is there to tell us if anything is not going to plan – before serious difficulties arise.

We also use a constant-readout rectal thermometer, to ensure that patients do not get chilled during procedures.

To keep our patients warm and dry, we now wrap them in lovely wicking 'Trover' coats, and then cover them in reflective foil. We have found that this improves recovery times greatly.
