MY DOGS STOMACH SEEMS SWOLLEN20.03.2007HI,i noticed recently my dog seems to have a swollen abdomen i have only noticed this over say... the last couple of days, she did have the same \'ailment\' a few months ago and after a few days it went, she seems ok in herself, and doesnt look \'ill\' she doesn\'t whimper or yelp if i touch her stomach; it seems to \'wobble\' in & out when she walks, family have said she looks pregnant but that isn\'t an option as she only goes out on a lead, and the garden is secure. my mother in law says her dog used to get like mine as she got older, and not to worry, but i just thought i\'d ask anyway! thanks. - lesley Hi Lesley yes you do need to be concerned - a swollen tummy can mean fluid retention, which can be caused by a number of things including heart disease. Many dogs with swollen tummies are just fat, but that comes on slowly - a recent rapid change certainly merits investigating - a scan would show if it is fluid, and then it is a case of determining the nature of the fluid, and why it is being produced. - Pete Coleshaw Back |
