worming16.11.2006why do worms keep comming out of a puppy after you have it wormed. i find them every morning in her bed. - linda hi linda this could be for one of several reasons: if you have used a pet-shop wormer, this may be ineffective - we frequently have pets infested with parasites that have had multiple dosings of pet-shop products (fleas in particular) and yet they are still infested. Modern drugs such as Milbemax and Drontal can be virtually guaranteed to do their job. However, when a pup gets worms from its mum (via the milk, or through the womb)the worm larvae migrate from inside the puppies' guts into the wall of the gut. They sit tight here for many weeks - and in this position they are resistant to wormers. During the period from 1 to 4 months of age, they migrate back into the gut itself, from where they may pass out of the body. It is poosible for you to worm a pup one week and have it passing more worms a week later because more have migrated back in the meantime. This is why re recommend repeated worming of pups during the first 6 months of their life. - pete coleshaw Back |
