are there any plants or other substances that can irritate a dogs feet?

22.08.2005

after walking our dog at a local nature reserve she came out going absolutely mad and knawing at her feet.We washed her feet which seemed to take the edge off but she still knawed and licked her feet for a good fifteen minutes

let my 2 jack russels Nobby and Raab tell you what they hate most!

nettles are number one on the list - they wont usually walk through nettles, but small ones on the ground will certainly result in the effects you describe

thistles are another scourge - again most dogs will avoid them if they see them first

last week 'Nobby' suddenly squealed and started limping on one foot - lameness which subsided after 15 mins with nothing visible - I presume he was stung by a wasp

we are certainly seeing plenty of problems with wasp stings at present.
