Pug Puppy Worn Teeth

20.04.2005

I have a 14 week old pug puppy who loves to chew. We have been giving him rawhide chews and pork strips etc. I have noticed that his front two teeth are worn down to the gums. Should i be worried about this and what sort of chews should i be giving him? thanks a lot.

Hi Laura May

It is unusual for a pup to wear teeth out this quickly and I wonder whether they have actually erupted properly
As these are 'baby teeth' and will be lost and replaced by the permanent teeth at around 6 months old, any damage to them is not too important (providing that all the teeth are in the right place)
If you have any doubts about the position of the teeth, a quick vet-check is recommended
regarding suitablity of chews, hide strips are fine, along with 'Kong' toys, 'Gummabones' and the like. We stock a range of appropriate chews for pups as well as adults
Now is also a good time to start brushing your puppy's teeth - as with human teeth, prevention is better than cure, and your pug should take to daily brushing without any problems at this age
have fun!
