Do i have to pay a bill in full prior to collecting my kitten from the vets?

05.09.2007

My Kitten has been at the vets for three weeks. We were told by the vet to get him put down. When we called to so so, we were told that he was fine and could come home??? Then we wre told we would have to pay the £140 bill in full prior to taking out kitten back home. Where do i stand legally on this? I feel no service has been offered and this is an utter disgrace!

Hi Sonja
good to hear that your kitty has got better after having been so poorly.
I have to say that £140 sounds very reasonable for 3 weeks worth of skilled care and attention.
It is normal practice to ask for payment at the time of collection of pets -our own consent form has this in the terms and conditions - a bit like if you go shopping, you expect to pay for goods at the time. Legally, not sure - try asking a legal person.
If I had put in 3 weeks work on a pet, I would expect payment at the time, I'm afraid, unless arrangements had been made to the contrary.
