my dog is 14 weeks old how long before she starts to menstrate




bitches usually 'come into season' for the first time between 6 and 12 months of age

if you are thinking of having your bitch speyed there are very good reasons to have her done before the first season

the risk of mammary cancer later in life is virtually eliminated by speying at this age - wait until they have had 3 seasons, and all this benefit is lost

moreover the female organs are immature at this age - surgery is simpler, safer, and usually cheaper as well as your dog will be smaller

it is an old-wives tail that you should always let your bitch have a litter before speying
