Our
foods
|
|
Let me explain about
our foods : we have looked at what is on the market regarding the
various types of pet-food, be they kibble, pouches , or whole meat
products. Our choices have been made by choosing the best products that
match our demands irrespective of the supplier or brand name. So we
recommend one brand for kibble, another for pouches, and we sell our own
raw frozen meats. We are not a 'Hill's' practice, or a 'Waltham'
practice.
Our frozen meat
products are all UK sourced, from EEC approved abbatoirs/suppliers, and
from licensed game dealers. They are all sold for working dogs, and are
therefore free of VAT*.
We have our own
meat and chicken mixes formulated to our own recipe, matching the
proportions of a 'prey species' i.e. 10-15% bone, 10% heart and
liver, the remainder meat with a moderate amount of fat. All meat is of
human grade, from Cheshire farms. We have made a good Biddulph Moor
'lobby' using our meaty mix, just to prove a point (for the
benefit of those of you not from Biddulph Moor, LOBBY is a meat and veg stew). It was actually very
nice, but we would stress that our products are sold for pet consumption
only!
Supermarket
'pet sausage'
You will find meat
'sausages' in the pet superstores. Don't confuse these with our
products. Our meat mixes include bone and organ meat, and we know what
is in the product. We can't buy our meats for the price that you can buy
these products from superstores - but personally I would never feed my
dogs on these products - the whole point of what we are trying to
achieve is to feed our pets with high quality food that will promote
good health. If you don't know what is in a product, nor where it comes
from, then don't feed it - you might as well feed a dry food with a
confirmed analysis, even if it is of poor (but known) quality!

Butcher's pet mince
Some butchers sell
'pet mince'. Be aware that this may include 'the bits that have been on
the floor', or meat that is getting long-in-the-tooth! That in itself is
not too serious : more important is that what you get will vary hugely
from week to week, depending upon what is left over: one week there may
be loads of liver in the mix - resulting in every pet that eats it
having the 'trots'. Our meaty and
chicken mixes are basically the same from week to week, month to month!

Keeping
the diet balanced.
Meat
on its own is not balanced !!!
Dogs
and cats need bone and organ meat (liver, kidney, heart, tripe) to
balance minced meats. THIS IS HUGELY IMPORTANT FOR YOUNG PUPS AND
KITTENS. If you feed meat only to young growing carnivores, you will
almost certainly cause them to develop Rickets or other bone-growth
disorders
If you feed ground
meats, we recommend that you feed a variety, both for interest, and to
ensure a good nutritional balance. Add some salmon oil daily to top-up
the Omega 3 fatty acid levels.

Salmon Oil
|
DON'T give your pet
lots of Cod-Liver Oil - it is too high in Vitamin A and Vitamin D, which
can be dangerous. Salmon oil is extracted from the skin, and contains
excellent levels of Omega 3 Fatty Acids.

Pigs ears vary hugely in quality and size. Ours are big juicy ones, of

have been cured with unpleasant chemicals!)

Free-flow mince
We buy our
free-flow mince from Anglian Meats (sold at their RRP). The meats are
frozen and then minced - producing a product like frozen peas, so you
can take as little or as much as you want each time. They are great for
getting pets started on raw meats, as you can add give them a teaspoon
first night, double the next, and so forth, avoiding any upset tummies.
THEY ARE NOT
BALANCED ON THEIR OWN. There is no
problem feeding these products to adults for a week or two (on
their own) but THEY
MUST NOT BE USED AS THE SOLE SOURCE OF FOOD FOR GROWING PUPPIES OR
KITTENS.
|
|
|
|
They can also be
used in adults when given with boney foods such as pheasant or chicken
frames, or if you want to 'upgrade' your current kibble diet by
replacing 25-50% of it with meat.
